Fat Jack’s Supersubs opened its first sandwich shop on Colfax Avenue in 2000 and has since added four more locations around Denver. One of those locations is about to move from its takeout- and delivery-only spot at Leetsdale Drive and Monaco Parkway to the former home of one of our favorite dive bars, the Thunderbird Lounge on Quebec Street, which closed last summer. Owners Kyle and Brooke Fabra are also opening a new Fat Jack’s next to Spangalang Brewing in Five Points in early May.
Moving the Leetsdale shop to Quebec Street, on the eastern edge of the Montclair neighborhood, will give added square footage to allow for in-store dining and will also put the sub shop closer to the center of its delivery zone, according to a Fat Jack’s spokesperson. Since the space was previously a bar, the owners are considering renewing the liquor license to serve beer and wine along with their subs, but have not yet made a decision. Fat Jack’s is the first new tenant in Montclair Plaza (which also also houses Moongate Asian Grill and Kassai Sushi) since the property was purchased by Larimer Associates in 2011.
The Five Points store is taking the place of a tattoo shop next to what was once a Denver Motor Vehicles office, but just opened as Spangalang Brewing last week. Fat Jack’s features original art in all of its stores; for the newest member of the family, artist Joshua Finley will be creating a visual timeline of the history of Five Points, including the neighborhood’s jazz roots.
